About

Practical digital solutions, built properly.

MadeDigital is the customer-facing brand of Made Digital Solutions. We design and build websites, ecommerce stores, applications and bespoke software for businesses that need technology to fit how they work — not the other way round.

What we do

One company across websites, ecommerce and software

MadeDigital creates websites, Shopify and ecommerce stores, customer and staff portals, applications and custom software. We also build and support MadeBookable, our own booking and operational management platform.

That range matters more than it might sound. A business that starts with a website often finds its real problem is operational — an enquiry process that does not connect to anything, a spreadsheet doing work it was never meant to do, two systems that do not talk to each other. Working across both means we can follow the problem wherever it leads, rather than recommending whichever solution happens to be the one we sell.

We work with small businesses that need a professional website, ecommerce businesses with products that do not fit a standard shop, and growing companies that need portals, integrations or bespoke systems. The approach is the same in each case; the scale is not.

Why MadeDigital exists

Technology should fit the business

The same pattern turns up repeatedly. A business buys software that nearly fits. The gaps get filled with spreadsheets, email and someone's memory. Over time those workarounds become the actual process — fragile, undocumented and dependent on one or two people who understand how it all hangs together.

MadeDigital was created to do the opposite: to start from how a business genuinely operates and build around that. Sometimes the answer is a well-built website. Sometimes it is connecting two systems that already exist. Sometimes it is bespoke software. The point is that the answer should come from the problem, not from a product catalogue.

That belief also shapes what we will not do. We do not sell projects larger than the problem requires, and we do not describe straightforward work in technical language to make it sound more impressive than it is.

How we work

Operational understanding, not technology in isolation

A lot of software is designed at a distance from the work it is meant to support. It handles the standard case well and falls apart at the exceptions — which, in most businesses, are a significant part of the job.

We combine development with genuine operational understanding: how bookings are actually taken, how allocations get decided when something changes at short notice, what staff do when the system does not allow what the customer is asking for. That understanding is why MadeBookable is configurable rather than fixed, and why our custom software projects start with mapping the current process rather than writing a specification.

Practically, it means we ask a lot of questions early, we talk to the people doing the work rather than only to management, and we build in stages so what we have understood can be checked against reality before it becomes expensive to change.

  • We map the process before designing anything

Including the exceptions that never made it into a written procedure.

  • We talk to the people who do the work

They know where the current process actually breaks down.

  • We build in stages

So decisions can change while changing them is still cheap.

  • We write things down

Scope, ownership and support arrangements, agreed before work starts.

How we approach clients

Four things you can hold us to

  • Understand the business first

We spend time on how the work actually gets done — including the exceptions and the informal steps — before recommending anything. Most bad software decisions come from skipping this.

  • Say what we actually think

If a smaller piece of work would solve the problem, or an existing product would do the job, we will tell you. Being useful is worth more than winning a larger project.

  • Build things people can run

Systems are handed over with training and documentation, and designed so routine changes do not depend on us being available.

  • Stay involved afterwards

The most valuable work often happens after launch, as real use reveals what should change. We would rather be a long-term partner than a one-off supplier.

Working together

Clear communication and long-term relationships

Most frustration in digital projects comes from communication rather than code. Not knowing where a project has got to, not understanding why something costs what it costs, or discovering late that a requirement was interpreted differently by each side.

We try to remove that by explaining things in plain language, being explicit about what is and is not included, and telling you early when something has changed. If a piece of work turns out to be more complicated than expected, you will hear it from us at the point we discover it.

We are also straightforward about what we are: a small, focused operation rather than a large agency. That means direct contact with the people doing the work, and it means we take on projects we can genuinely deliver rather than everything that comes through the door.
